William Simpson

William ‘Billy’ Simpson Sr. age 86 passed Sunday, March 26, 2023 at his home in Athens, Tennessee. He was a lifelong resident of McMinn County. He worked for many years in concrete construction especially for TVA.

Billy loved his family and was a good-hearted person, helping others whenever he could. He had many friends. You could always get a laugh out of him, there was never a dull moment when he was around!

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Marie Simpson, his wife Edna Mae McCowan Simpson, his son Tommy Simpson, brother Jake Simpson, Jr., and sisters Minnie Simpson, and Pauline Roby.

‘Billy’ is survived by his brother, Jimmy ‘Jimbo’ Simpson, sister Ella Mae Moore and his children, son, William (Lisa)Simpson Jr. of Athens, TN., daughters Tammy Simpson, Sherry(Ralph) Smith, and Sandy Espey all of Athens, TN. Lesa (Michael) Adams of Chattanooga, TN., Felicia Johnson of Sweetwater, TN and Carlotta Ware of Cleveland, TN., daughter-in-law Gaynell Simpson of Cleveland, TN., Rashawda Arnwine, Willie Matlock, Tabitha(David) McDermott, and Shytanna(Pete) McDermott. Many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Two special neighbors, Stephanie and Ray.

Homegoing services will be held Saturday, April 1, at 1:00 pm at Light of Life Faith Ministries in Athens, TN with pastor Rev. Dr. Harold McCowan will be officiating and Rev. Larry Saunders will deliver the eulogy. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church from 12:00 pm until 1:00 pm. Interment will follow the service at Moore Cemetery in Niota, TN
