Walter Shepherd Goode, age 73 Mayor of Charleston, Tennessee passed away Sunday, July 12, 2020 at a local hospital. He was a graduate of College Hill High School in Cleveland, TN., and served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corp. Upon returning to Cleveland, he worked at the Peerless Mill for two years, was employed by L&N Railroad for four years, and the Tennessee Valley Authority in 1976-77. He then joined the Cutler-Hammer (Eaton) workforce, where he remained for 25 years, retiring in 2002. He worked for Bradley County Community Services after his retirement. Walt was always the life of any of the family get togethers. He was a great cook, with his specialty being his home made chili. He was avid Crimson Tide football fan. He was a member of Green’s Chapel Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder,  and was a member of the Men of Praise ensemble. He is preceded in death by his parents Nathanial and Estella Goode, four sisters, Jeanette Taylor, Beverly Goode, Linda Goode, Nadine Goode, and brother Michael Goode, and brother-in-law Hoyt Berry.

Walt leaves to mourn a loving wife of 47 years Sue Lattimore Goode, four children, Shona McBee, Damon Lattimore, Aaron Goode, and Darron Goode. Five grandchildren, Keenen Lattimore, Victoria McBee, Alaysia Lattimore, Logan Burgess and Rivers Graham. Two great-grandchildren, Jaida, and Tayden. One sister, Joann (Terrance) Jackson, and one brother Jimmy (Rachel) Goode. One sister-in-law, Betty Lattimore Berry and brother-in-law, Benny (Yvonne) Lattimore. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends, who will who truly miss him.

Funeral services will be Sunday July 19, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Harry Johnson delivering the eulogy and Rev. James Parris officiating at Green’s Chapel Presbyterian Church in Charleston, TN. The body will lie in state at the funeral home on Saturday from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., and before the church service on Sunday from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at Charleston Community cemetery with military honors.
