Van Wellington "Skippy" Ross passed away peacefully in his home on August 28, 2024, in Cleveland, Tennessee, at the age of 75. He was born on February 1, 1949, in Detroit, Michigan to Lucius T. and Gwendolyn G. Ross, who both preceded him in death. Van is survived by his loving wife, Yolanda D. Ross (Forbes), his biological daughter, LaKesha N. Jones (former son-in-law, Edward Jones I), other daughters; Charissee Forbes, Nayango Caslin (Tony), Lamokenge Kirby (Rundee), Jacqueline Ilimbi and Son, Diandre Morris, biological grandchildren, Edward Jones II (Racheal) and Elise Jones, other grandchildren; Jada Forbes, Elijah Forbes, NaTasha Caslin, Angel Kirby and Moriah Kirby, biological great grandson, Taryn Jones, and other loving relatives and friends.
Van was often referred to as "The Gentle Giant" because of his gentle and kind spirit. Van was known for his generous and selfless heart toward others, always placing the needs and desires of others before his own.
Van cherished the simple pleasures of life, like fishing and working on cars with his daughter, Kesha. His passion for cooking and experimenting with new recipes brought joy not only to him but also to those he shared them with. After a fulfilling career as an Electrical Engineer & Calibration Specialist with (TVA) Tennessee Valley Authority, he dedicated his retirement years to his faith in God and community. He was also a Navy Reserve Veteran.
In his earlier Christian years, he Pastored two AME Zion Churches, and Pastored in the Church of God. In the last chapter of his life, he served faithfully and diligently under the leadership of Pastor Michael Obi in multiple capacities at Mt. Zion Prayer Center, including Elder, Associate Pastor, Finance Manager, Board Member, Bread of Life Bible Instructor & Home Fellowship Leader.
His commitment to study and teaching God's word was profound, and he enjoyed every moment he spent in spiritual leadership and fellowship. Van's legacy of faith, generosity, kindness and dedication will forever be remembered and cherished in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024, at 11:00 am at First Presbyterian Church of Cleveland, 433 N. Ocoee Street, Cleveland, TN, 37311, with viewing beginning at 10:00 am. A prior viewing will take place on Thursday, September 5, from 5-7 pm at M.D.Dotson & Sons Funeral Home, 165 Lang Street NE, Cleveland, TN 37311.

Interment - Fort Hill Cemetery, Cleveland, TN
