Tammy Simpson

Tammie Lynette Simpson, age 64, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at her home in Englewood, TN. Born on July 31, 1960, to Edna Mae McCowan Simpson and William “Billy” Simpson, Tammy was raised in Athens, TN, where she attended McMinn County High School, graduating with the Class of 1978. She dedicated over 20 years of her career to Crescent Hosiery Mills.

Tammy was a devoted member of Light of Life Faith Ministries International, where she found joy and fellowship for many years. She was a loving daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother who cherished time with her family and friends. Known for her warmth and laughter, Tammy made everyone feel special. She was an incredible godmother to her “Godchild,” Monique Simpson and Aryone Thomas.

She had a passion for cooking and was known for her Oreo delight, chicken casserole, and hamburgers. Tammy also loved football, especially cheering for the Dallas Cowboys, and enjoyed playing softball, a sport she played for many years. In quieter moments, she could be found coloring, helping her mother with quilting projects, or babysitting her beloved grandchildren.

Tammy is preceded in death by her parents, Edna Mae McCowan Simpson and William “Billy” Simpson, and her twin brother, Tommy (Gaynelle) Simpson.

She is survived by her two children, Kasey Brewster and Aisha Brewster of Athens, TN; bonus children, Tia Brewster and Myra Brewster; and her cherished grandchildren, Amiya Brewster, Courtney Brewster, Patrick Brewster, and Camdyn Latham. Tammy is also survived by her brother, William (Lisa) Simpson, and seven sisters: Sherry Smith, Sandy Espey, Shytanna (Pete) McDermott, Tabitha (Troy) McDermott, Lesa (Michael) Adams of Chattanooga, TN, Felicia Johnson of Sweetwater, TN, and Carlotta Ware of Cleveland, TN.

She leaves behind her beloved aunts and uncles: Jimmy “Jimbo” Simpson and Ella Mae Moore, both of Athens, TN; Jackie and Polly Mayotte of Sweetwater, TN; Melvin Oggs of Sweetwater, TN; Chester McCowan of Niota, TN; Turley Smith of Athens, TN; Robert and Mattie McCowan of Athens, TN; and one sister-in-law, Gaynelle Simpson of Cleveland, TN. Tammy also leaves numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends, including special friends Brother Brewster, Vonnie McDermott, Francis Witt McMahan, Amy Arnwine, Faye Long, Tory Ervin, Dorothy Evans, Stephen Davis, and Ray Davis.

Tammy will be remembered for her generosity, her unwavering love for her family, and her vibrant personality. She brought joy to all who knew her and will be deeply missed.

Homegoing Services will be held Sunday, November 24, 2024 at Light of Life Ministries in Athens, Tenn. at 2:30 p.m. with pastor Rev. Dr. Harold McCowan delivering the eulogy Family will receive friends 1:30 p.m. to2:30 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Moore Cemetery in Niota, TN.
