Shelvia Jones Mccowan

Shelvia Jones McCowan age 58 passed Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at a Cleveland health care facility.

She was a member of Price Memorial  A.M.E. Zion Church in  Cleveland, Tenn. She was a graduate of Cleveland High School, and worked for many years in various capacities in Athens, and Cleveland, Tennessee. She was a tremendous fan of the Pittsburgh  Steelers.

She is preceded in death by her parents, William Issac Jones and Nora Mae Williams, sister Gladys Townes, seven brothers, Rayburn Williams, Richard Jones, George Jones, William Henry Jones, Gerald Jones, Marcus E. Williams, and James Jones, uncles, and aunts,  Thurman Williams, John Williams, Lee Williams, Vernon Williams, Carzaelle Brown, Lillian Hall and Kathleen Lodge.

She leaves to cherish her beloved daughter, Shamesda ( Kaumer)Hughes of Chattanooga, TN and two sons, Yonderez Jones, and Calvin McCowan. Beloved sisters, Garcia Marvorneen Davis, Marcia Williams, Marlene Doretta Aikens, and Gisele (Michael) Dodd. Two aunts, Dana Hurst, of Buffalo, NY, and Willa Dean Williams of Cleveland, TN., Nine grandchildren,  eight nephews, and nieces. Special niece Josephine Brown, special  nephews, Chazamom Derez Jones, William “Bam” Jones, and special friends, Lisa Tate Smith, Janet Ricker, and Bobby Sue Kemp.

Funeral services will be happy Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of M.D. Dotson and Sons Funeral Home – Cleveland, Tennessee with Minister Solomon Williams officiating.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              In compliance with COVID-19, social distancing will be observed and face mask are required. There will be a walk- through visitation one hour prior to the service from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m at the funeral home.
