Samuel Neil

Samuel ‘Sam’ Neil age 72of Athens, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday January 2, 2019 at his residence. He was a graduate of Class of 1964 J.L. Cook High School, where he excelled in sports, scoring 50 points in one basketball game. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Athens, TN., and was a Vietnam veteran, serving his country and retiring with twenty-three years of distinguished service from the U.S. Air Force as a Master Sargent.

He was an avid golf enthusiast and Titans football fan.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Williams and Murriel Neil, one sister, Frances Neil King, three brothers, William Neil Jr., Dave Neil Sr., and Mitchell Neil.

Survivors include his wife of twenty-four years, Shirley Neil of Athens, Tn. Son, Samuel Neil Jr. of Nashville, TN., two step-daughters, Bridget Jones, and Erica Jones. Two nieces, Judith Williams, Camissa Neil of Athens, TN. Three nephews, Kenneth Phillips, of  Athens, TN., David Neil Jr. of Athens, TN., Timothy White of Athens, TN., many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 7, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with pastor Chris Eady officiating and Rev. Kenneth Scaife delivering the euology. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at McMinn Memory Gardens.
