Rufus Thompson

Rufus Preston Thompson age 66 of Sweetwater, TN passed on July 10, 2017, at Summit View, Farragut, TN , surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 9, 1950, in Murfreesboro, TN to the late Rufus Derondo Thompson and Rubye Mae Scales Thompson. He is also preceded in death by one son DeMarcus Thompson.

He was a member of Riverview Missionary Baptist Church in Lenoir City, TN. He graduated from Lenoir City High School and continued his educational training in sheet metal as a certified welder and member of the Sheet Metal Workers of America. He was a technically minded gentleman who enjoyed working with his hands; he was also a master craftsman.

He leaves cherished memories to his three siblings, Judy (Lonnie) Jones Jr. of Knoxville, TN, Carl Thompson of Sweetwater, TN, and Molly (Jimmy) Cannady of Sweetwater, TN. Six nephews, Christopher (Ranie) Jones, Nicholas (Ciarra) Jones, Derondo (Candice) Logan, James, Dominic and Christopher Cannady. Three nieces, Carman Hall, Rachel and Felicia Cannady. Two great-nephews, Ivan McZee, and Weston R. Jones. Three nieces, Maranda Strange, Destiny Oggs, Angel Hooker, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be Saturday, July 15, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at Riverview Missionary Baptist Church in Lenoir City, TN. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM- 2:00 PM with the funeral to follow. Minister Nicholas W. Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Hackney Chapel Cemetery in Lenoir City, TN.
