Roger Lee Clark, age 71, passed unexpectedly on Friday December 6th in Niota, TN. Roger retired from the Marines and the Army National Guard after more than 20 years of service. He was previously employed with TVA and Charisma Chairs, Pioneer Furniture and as a security guard at Denso, but his passion was landscaping and yard work.
Roger was a faithful member of the Lane’s Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church serving as Chairman of the Trustee board, member of the Stewards board, Superintendent of Sunday School and Assistant Preacher Steward. He was the person who checked on the people of the community. And most of all he supported his wife in all of her ministry work.
Roger was preceded in death by parents: George Clark and Maude Swafford Clark Latham. Father-in-Law and Mother-in-Law Rev. Calvin Smith and Mary Frances Prigmore Smith; brothers: Raymond Clark, Clyde Clark and Stevie Clark. Sisters: Betty Barber and Mary Henegar, Nephew Franklin Latham, Nieces Denise Clark, Ashley Clark and brother-in-law Rev. R. T. Smith.
Roger is survived by his loving wife of 47 years- Veronica Smith-Clark, Daughters: Kimberly Denise Latham (Robert) Rivas of Athens, TN and Iesha Lanise Clark of Niota, TN. Three Grandchildren: Dorian Simpson, Question Simpson and Shylon Simpson, Four great-grandchildren: Aubree Simpson, Kiani Key-Simpson, Honesty Simpson and Marland “MJ” Simpson. A brother George A. Clark of Indianapolis, IND, Sisters: Alice Scruggs, Sweetwater, TN, Brenda (Clyde) Benton, Louisville, KY, and Debbie (Jason) Fiser of Athens, TN. Brother-in-law Johnathan (Sandy) Smith, Cantonment, Fl. Sisters-in-Law: Lisa (John) Ramsey of Niota, TN and Etta Smith, Niota, TN and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and other family members. Devoted Nephews: Barry Henegar and Felix Latham, special friends Michael Davenport of Millington, TN, Ray Moore, Melvin Wilkerson of Niota. Robert Jones, Athens, TN.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 13, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Lane Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Niota, Tn with pastor Rev. Hugh Dixson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow the service at LaneTown Cemetery with military honors.
