Phillip Lawrence Dunn was born in Orlando, Florida on October 18th, 1951 to the late Willie and Anabel Dunn. He took his flight to be with the Lord on September 20, 2022 and leaves behind a legacy of wisdom and knowledge his family will endear for generations to come.

Phillip was a retired Vietnam era veteran who served as an active duty E-6 Staff Sergeant in the United States Army and the Reserves. Phillip graduated with a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering from the University of TN and spent the rest of his career working for the Y-12 National Security Complex on a variety of projects in multiple engineering fields. He found his lovely wife, Connie, at the age of 21 who he married and went on to build a beautiful life and family with four children.

Phillip took pride in being a provider and a protector and his family credits him for the priceless wisdom he instilled in them throughout his years. He will be remembered for his guidance, his ability to be that “jack of all trades”, his financial discipline and his classic conversations where you knew you had to “come correct” in order to participate.

He was preceded in death by his parents Willie C.  Dunn and Anabel H. Dunn, and his first born child Kevin Lamont Dunn (Kevin Boo).

He leaves behind to celebrate his home-going: his wife Connie M. Dunn of 49 years of marriage; his oldest daughter Kristi Dunn (Knoxville, TN); twin son and daughter Kristopher Dunn (U.S. Airforce) and Katherine Dunn (Knoxville, TN); daughter-in-law Ttsk Fkw Dunn; grandsons Kijon Dunn and Kalen Wilson; 3 sisters - Theresa Parker, Phyllis Hill, and Shawnda Brown (Travis); 4 brothers - Bill Dunn (Carolyn), David Dunn (Sharon), Stanley Dunn (Cassandra), Stephen Dunn (Yolanda); and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and many special friends.

Home going services will be Sunday, September 25, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of M.D. Dotson and Sons Funeral Home – Athens, TN with Elder Walter Bragg delivering the eulogy and Rev. Arthur Cannon officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be on Monday, September 26, 2022 at the East Tennessee Veteran Cemetery on Sevierville Hwy Knoxville, TN with military honor guard.

M.D. Dotson & Sons Funeral Home will continue to be in compliance with COVID -19, masks are required, and we will monitor for social distancing.
