Marion Delores “Dee” Johnson , age 83 a lifelong resident of Athens TN transitioned into heaven on April 23rd 2022.
Dee was born on May 6, 1938. She graduated from Knoxville College in 1961 with a B.S. degree in education . She taught English and Keyboarding at J.L. Cook High for four years and then continued her career at McMinn Central High School, where she retired after 37 years of teaching.
Dee was a devoted Christian and member of First United Presbyterian Church, where she served as treasurer of the church. She was also a charter member of Tau Eta Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. where she served president and secretary. She was a member of both NAACP and McMinn Retired Teacher Association. She enjoyed reading, shopping, traveling and volunteering in her community.
She is preceded in death by her parents Andrew and Augusta Johnson, brothers, Charles Johnson, John “Bo” Johnson, Everett “Dick” Johnson and sisters, Betty Gillespie and Maime Johnson.
Dee is survived by her sister Glenna(Gene) Billups and brother Glen “Ray” (Jackie) Johnson and several special nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, students and all who knew her.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at First United Presbyterian Church with Rev. Wayne Williams officiating. Interment will follow the service at Hammonds Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home and on Saturday one hour before the service at the church from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m.
