Loretta Ferguson

Loretta Ferguson, age 76, transitioned from home to a higher calling on April 14, 2019. She was the daughter of the late Harlan and Cordelia McCowan. Preceded in death by her husband, Don Ferguson; two children, Jerry Lynn and Derrick; one sister, Florene McCowan and three brothers, H. C., Kenneth and Eugene McCowan.

Loretta was a faithful member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Niota, Tn, until her health failed. She was a devoted choir member, served on the kitchen committee and several other capacities. Loretta retired from Thomas & Betts of Athens, TN after 25 years of service.

Survivors include: Children, Donna Faye, Don (Twana), Michelle (Calvin) Ferguson, all of Sweetwater, TN.  Jeffrey and Corey Ferguson of Athens, TN; and Cynthia Ferguson, of Cleveland, TN; 29 Grandchildren, 31 Great-grandchildren and 1 Great-great grandchild. One Sister, Zella Mae Smith, of Niota., TN; Brothers, Lewis McCowan, of Sweetwater, TN and James (Pam) McCowan, of Niota, TN; Sisters in Law, Ethel Mae, Joann Fike and Mary Ruth Brownlee, of Sweetwater, TN,  Gladys McCowan of Niota, TN, Edna Sue McCowan, of Athens, TN and Mary Ferguson, of Nashville, TN;  Brothers in Law, Jake Ferguson and John Christian Jhonkins, of Sweetwater, TN; one Aunt, Oranell McCowan of Gary, Indiana; one Godson, Tre Pierce, of Athens, TN.  Devoted friends, Martha Smith, Patricia Patton, Frances Arnwine, Patricia Swafford, Debra Wells, Jessie Arnwine, Betty Ann Scruggs and Freddie Upton; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services will be held Thursday, April 18, 2019 @ Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, with Elder Terrell L. Mims, Eulogist. Receiving of friends 12:00-1:00 PM, funeral @ 1p, followed by burial @ Moore Cemetery, Niota, TN. Services of loving memory entrusted to M.D. Dotson & Sons Funeral Home- Athens, TN.
