Lewis E. McCowan of Sweetwater, TN went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday September 26, 2022 at his home. He was born May 16, 1940 in Niota, Tn to Issac Harlan McCowan and Cordelia Moore McCowan. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Evelyn McCowan, his brothers,and sisters-in-law, H.C. McCowan, Eugene and Gladys McCowan and Kenneth and Edna Sue McCowan. His sisters and brothers-in-law. Florene and Alfred McCowan and Loretta and Don Ferguson and his brother-in-law Fred Smith.

He leaves to carry on his memory  his children Renia McCowan of Dalton, GA, Brent ‘Peanut’ McCowan of Athens, TN, and Issac(Ashia) McCowan of Dalton, GA, Gene(Wilma) Bradley of Knoxville, TN, Margaret Ellison, Valerie Ellison, Fredrick Ellison, Vann Ellison and Annette(Neet) Wilson; his grandchildren, Demetria McCowan, AonDrea Parris, Kasha Taylor, Alyssa McCowan, Drake McCowan, Zack Peasant, Tre Brewster, Lanika Bradley, Brentney Brabson, Demetrius Brabson, and Monique Bradley and a host of other grands. His great-grandchildren Noah Parris, Paisley Henderson, Leighton Henderson, Xya Peasant and Zaiden Brewster and a host of other great grands. His sister Zella Smith and brother James(Pamela) McCowan, sister-in-law Ethel Mae McCowan, Ruth Jenkins of New York, a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and associates      ( Too many to name!).

He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1966-1968, and worked for Steel City for many many years. He also served on the Sweetwater City council, and worked as an addiction counselor, and a deacon of First United Church  of Christ. He loved horses, hunting, farming, canning, and family, but most of all he loved serving the Lord.

Home going services will be held Sunday, October 2, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at First United Church of Christ Sweetwater, TN with Rev. Archie Smartt delivering the eulogy and pastor Rev. Nicholas Jones officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Interment will follow the service at Moore Cemetery in Niota, TN.

In compliance with COVID-19, social distancing will be observed and face mask are required. M.D. Dotson & Sons Funeral Home will continue to be in compliance with COVID-19, masks are required, and we will monitor for social distancing .
