Josephine Arnwine

Josephine Johnkins Arnwine, age 91 of Athens, TN, passed away on May 12, 2023 at Starr Regional Nursing Home in Etowah, TN.

Josephine was born on February 6, 1932 in Athens, TN. She was a 1950 graduate of J.L. Cook High School and had a long and successful career, retiring after many years of service at Plastics Industrial. Josephine was a Christian who was deeply religious and was blessed with the talent of making music even with an out of tune piano sound like it was from heaven. She acted as a mentor and protector to her nieces and nephews, and was a devoted and loving caregiver to her mother in her later years. She enjoyed playing the piano, reading her Bible, and spending time with her family.

Josephine was preceded in death by her father, Caleb Johnkins, and mother, Rosa Cox Johnkins; her husband Jack Arnwine, her brothers, Caleb Johnkins Jr. and John C. Johnkins; and her sisters, Fannie Lou Johnkins, Rosie Arnwine, Lucy Brown, Naomi Johnkins, and Tabitha Smith.

Josephine is survived by her brother, Jerome (Odean) Johnkins; and her 31 nieces and nephews.  Family and friends of Josephine are invited to celebrate her life at M.D. Dotson and Sons Funeral Home on Wednesday, May17, 2023 , with Rev. Ivey Smith officiating. Receiving of friends will begin at1:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m.. Expressions of condolences and other family wishes can be shared at this time. Intement will follow the service at McMinn Memory Gardens in Athens,TN.
