John Wesley Sharp, Sr . better known as "Stoney” at age 95 passed Saturday morning September 5, 2020 at his home surrounded by family. He was born from the union of the late William (Bill) Sharp and Magnolia Jarrett Sharp on October 6, 1924 in Cleveland, TN.
Stoney attended College Hill School.  Subsequently, drafted into the United States Army in 1943 where he served  in the U.S. Seventh Army in the Mediterranean theater of World War II and the U.S. Third Army in France and Germany thereby completing three operations  as a driver and mechanic under General George Patton, Jr.  He was honorably discharged at the rank of Tech 5.

Stoney's military expertise lead to his career in automotive services which expanded from Cleveland, TN to Detroit, Michigan. Upon retirement he maintained his passion for good music accompanied by soulful dancing, long days of fishing, hunting, and/or catching a western movie.  Stoney accepted and presented his life to Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

Stoney is preceded in death by his god-mother, Ms. Lottie, his wife, Notha Mae (Johnson) Sharp,  mothers of his children, Cristina Craigmiles and Genevieve Hassler, his six siblings, Jack Sharp, Margaret Yarbrough, Helen Waters, Francis Enos, Dago Sharp, and Carolyn Russ, and three sons, Larry Craigmiles, Marvin Sharp, and Michael Dablo Sharp.

Known for his quick wit and endless sense of humor, Stoney's life, love, and memories will be cherish by his seven sons and daughters, John Wesley Sharp Jr. ,of Athens, TN, Doris Cox of Fontana, CA, Allen Sharp Sr., of Athens, TN, Irvin Sharp (Sherri Sharp) of Sacramento, CA, Marcella Hudgins of Knoxville, TN,  Patrick Sharp of Cleveland, TN, and Margaret Jones of Memphis, TN., his devoted and adored caregiver and grandson Wesley G. Constant, as well as his 21 grandkids and a host of great grandkids, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In compliance with Covid-19 there will be walk-thru viewing on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.  with a Celebration of Life service immediately following at 11:00 a.m. with minister Patrick Sharp delivering the eulogy in the chapel of M.D. Dotson & Sons Funeral Home – Cleveland, TN.  Interment at the Chattanooga National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.
