Some people walk this earth for only a brief time but others departure remind us that angels are still watching over us all.

On Saturday, June 15, 2024, Elder Hugh Richard Latham Sr., age 80, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by his family at his home in Sweetwater, TN.

In April 1977, Hugh joined the Journey Men Iron Workers Chapter, local 704 in Chattanooga, TN until retired in 2000 due to a family illness.

Hugh was a strong willed man who loved his walk with the Lord. He was a devoted member of North Point Church in Sweetwater, TN. He was passionate in all that he did for the Lord, which included holding offices of church treasurer, church clerk, Sunday school teacher, and also Elder of the Church.

He preceded in death by his spouse Willie Frances Latham, sons, Hugh ’Richie’ Latham Jr., and Curtis McCowan, parents, Hugh ‘Dude’ and  Helena Jane Brown Latham, grand parents, Lafatte and Zora Brown, Hugh and Beulah Latham, siblings, Teresa Black, Mary Glynn Asbury, Tommy Latham and James Latham.

Survivors include his children, Randy McCowan, Roxie(Elder James) Lane, Shelia ( Reverend Perry) Jackson all of Sweetwater, TN, and Christie Latham of Athens, TN. Sisters, Pat (Elder Jay) McClendon, Jackie Latham all of Sweetwater, TN, and Mary (Elder Paul) Swafford of Athens, TN. A host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, as well as lots of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Along with three special friends, D. R. Browder, Sherman Martin, and Tena Dennis.

Memorial service will be held Monday, June 24, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. at North Point Church with pastor Rev. Ivey Smith officiating. The family will receive friends thirty minutes before the service at the church.
