Hazel A. Swafford Bunion

d. November 18, 2018

Hazel A. Swafford Bunion was born on February 16, 1953 to the late Rosa Lee and Leon Swafford in Cleveland, Tennessee. On Sunday, November 18, 2018, surrounded by family and friends, Hazel was called home to be with the Lord.

Hazel accepted Christ at an early age and as an adult joined Redeemer Baptist Church in Philadelphia, PA.

Growing up, she and her sisters were known as the ‘pretty’ Tennessee Girls.  As a teen, Hazel moved to Philadelphia. She graduated from South Philadelphia High School in 1971.  She later met the love of her life Levi Bunion who preceded her in death.  Hazel was employed at the Pastry Shop of the Restaurant School and at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Hazel loved her family fiercely; her greatest accomplishment was being a loving mother to her two children, Khadiyah and Kurt. She shared a special relationship with her one and only granddaughter whom she thought of as her special gift.

Hazel was very sociable and outgoing. She enjoyed meeting and talking to people, and most of all she loved to make people laugh.  She enjoyed the finer things in life, including traveling to some of the most exciting places around the world.  Hazel loved to wear exquisite fashions, and loved entertaining and trips to the casino. She was a giving woman who enjoyed providing for others.

Preceding Hazel in death were her five sisters and one brother.

She leaves to celebrate her life and legacy; her two children, Khadiyah (Louis) and Kurt; Step-son, Levi; Granddaughter, Ayana; two sisters Phyllis and Greta Swafford and one aunt- Lillian Gaines and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and an abundance of family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 25, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Rev. Martha Tibbs delivering the eulogy and Pastor Rev. Edward S. Robinson officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to service from 1:30 until 2:00 p.m.
