Harry Lee Ervin, Sr. 

Harry Lee Ervin Sr. age 73 went to be with his Lord and Savior on November 3, 2024, at Etowah Healthcare Center. Harry worked for the state of Washington for over 15 years as a prison guard and as a deputy for the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department. He was a Lance Corporal in the United States Marine Corp. and served his country in the Vietnam War. He was lastly employed with Kimberly Clark where he worked for 8 years as a forklift driver.

Harry was a member of First United Church of Christ in Sweetwater, TN where he served on the kitchen committee and did a lot of the church cooking. He was a member of the community organization called the Reflections of Christ, “ROC”, and he sang in the choir for many years, both the gospel and male chorus. Harry also served in the community as a Little League football coach for over thirty years.

Harry is preceded in death by his father and mother Franklin Newman Ervin and Ella Mae Oggs Ervin. Brothers, Franklin ‘Butch’ Newman Ervin, James ‘Jimmy’ William Ervin, sister, Charlotte Inman, Margaret Louise Ervin, and son Jeremy Brown.

He is survived by his wife Peggy Jean Ervin of Sweetwater, TN. Children, Jerome (Julie) Ervin of Athens, TN, Harry Lee (Heather) Ervin of Maryville, TN., Christina (Felix) Latham, and Brock Arnwine both of Knoxville, TN., and Jonathan Brown of Washington. Step-children, Scott (Nikki) Bradley of Chattanooga TN, Lionell (Sandra) Smith of Sweetwater, TN, and Trish (Robert) Seivers of Maryville, TN, and godchild Daven Cozart of Sweetwater, TN. Twenty-eight grandchildren and a host of nieces, and nephews. Twenty great-grandchildren, Brothers, Paul Kenneth Ervin, and George Ervin, sister Mary Earnestine Smith, and many others who loved him.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 8, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of M.D. Dotson and Sons Funeral Home – Athens, TN with Pastor Nichlas Jones officiating and Rev. Vant Hardaway delivering the eulogy. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. Services will conclude with military honors presentation.
