Gladys Porter

Mrs. Gladys Lorene Porter, 98 departed this life, Sunday October 6, 2024. She was the loving wife of Mr. James Lester Porter, who preceded her in death. She was born April 25, 1926 to Richard and Dora Mae Keith. She graduated from J.L. Cook High School class of 1943. She was united in marriage to Lester Porter and they had two children, Rhonda Porter Berry and Greg Porter.

She was a faithful and dedicated member of the FirstUnited Presbyterian Church for many years. She served as a Sunday School teacher, member of the Women’s Presbyterian and coordinator of communion.

She had many talents, She was blessed with a voice of an angel and was trained by one of her family members, who was an opera singer and was trained by a voice coach to sing opera.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of M.D. Dotson and Sons Funeral Home – Athens, with Rev. Wayne Williams officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Hammonds Cemetery.
