George Bailey

George Thomas Bailey ‘Tommy’ , age 74 was called home Saturday, May 6, 2023. He was a native of Athens, Tn and spent a total of twenty-two years of Honorable service between the United States Air Force and the United States Navy earning a National Defense Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Good Conduct (Second) Award, Navy Expeditionary Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (Second Award).

He is proceeded in death by his father George D. Bailey and mother Willie Frances Bailey and son Jerrell “JT” Bailey.

He leaves to cherish his memory, daughters Sonya (Broderick) Murphy, Jonesboro, Ga and Alicia Bailey and Keith (Civi) McDonald of Grand Rapid MI, three granddaughters: Shaleigha Shepard, Aliyah Murphy, Brielle McDonald, one grandson: Klassiq McDonald and one great granddaughter Wynter Washington. Aunt Ruth Malone of Athens, Tn, Sisters: Gwendolyn Bennett of Grand Rapids Michigan, Imogene King, and Charlesetta (Kenneth) McDermott of Athens, Tn, Five brothers: John (Helen) Bailey, Clifford Bailey, and Rick King of Athens, Tn, Terry (Faye) Long of Harvest, Al and William Bailey of Clarksville, Tn and a host of nieces, nephews and his homies Herman “Freeman”, Mike Cates, and Robert Jones.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of M.D. Dotson and Sons Funeral Home – Athens, TN., with Rev. Vant Hardaway officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow the services at Hammond Cemetery in Athens, TN., with miliary honor guard.
