Evelyn Spriggs Davis, age 88, a lifelong resident of Bradley County Tennessee passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at Tennova hospital in Cleveland, TN surrounded by her family. She was raised in Philadelphia, Pa then moved back to Cleveland where she married Edwin ‘Buck’ Davis.  She was employed at Bendix for over 20 years and then worked at Cleveland State Community College and later retired from there. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Cleveland, TN.

She is preceded in death by her husband Edwin Davis, her parents, William Spriggs, Mother Maggie Parker and Stepmother Rose Spriggs, one sister, Carrie Elizabeth Taylor, one brother, Henry Ashmore, a son Robert Taylor and grandson O’Neal Ware Jr.

Ms. Evelyn, AKA ‘ Moma Puddin, ‘Puddin’ as she was so affectionately called, loved her family, gathering with them whether it was for a Sunday home cook meal, or a backyard cookout and fish fry.  She loved hanging around the ball parks and arenas with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, she was their number one fan at all of their sporting activities. She was known for letting the referee know she knew the game! She has been thrown out of many games, her favorite saying as she was being put out of the park, “I’ve been put out of better places”.

Evelyn leaves to cherish many joyful memories with family and children, Maria (Jed) Whaley, Angela (O’Neal) Ware, Joyce Davis, Richard Todd (Shirley) Davis, Edwina ‘ Nesi ’ (Gerald) Jordan, Edwin ‘Buck’ (Janet) Davis, Darla Ware and Mark (Jennifer) Taylor all of Cleveland, TN., stepdaughter Sherry Hooker of Chicago, Il. extended daughters, Peggy Goodine , and Carlotta Ware, 54 grandchildren, 76 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Mary Carter and Phyllis Graham, two brothers, David Ashmore and Ricky Ashmore. Special cousins, Edith Blair and Isabella Westfield, special nieces, Kathy Kennedy, Pam McCleary, Sabrina Taylor, Joan Davis and Devada Graham, many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church with pastor Rev. Edward S. Robinson Sr. delivering the eulogy. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow the service on Thursday, November 3, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Chattanooga National Cemetery, Chattanooga, TN.
