Erbie "Sam" Melton Mcdermott

Erbie Melton "Sam" McDermott, age 80, of Athens, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2017, surrounded by family.
He was a graduate of the J.L Cook High School class of 1958, and later attended barber college in Tyler, Texas. He retired from Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in Hartford, CT after 30 years of dedicated service. He was a member of St. Mark A.M.E. Zion Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Dorothy(Witt) McDermott, one brother, James Edward "Jim" McDermott, and one sister, Helen "Sue" Edmonds.

Survivors include his two daughters, Dianna(Phillip) Wilkerson of Athens, TN, Jackquline(Bill) McDermott of Pittsburgh, PA, and one son, Jason(Venice) McDermott of Athens, TN. Three sisters, Odessa(Johnny) Jones of Wilbraham, MA, Elizabeth "Toy" Collier of Athens, TN, Alice "Shuly" Oliver of Athens, TN. Three brothers, Pastor Leuty McDermott of Riceville, TN, Kenneth "Bub" (Charlesetta) McDermott of Athens, TN, and Webster "Buck" McDermott of Athens, TN. Thirteen wonderful grandchildren. One uncle, Burkett Witt of Athens, TN. A special niece/sister, Carol "Wincie" McDaniel of Athens, TN. A devoted niece and nephew, Clent and Latoshia Gregory of Niota, TN, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 6, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mark A.M.E. Zion Church in Athens, TN, with Rev. Roxianne S. Sherles officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service from 12:00 p..m. to 1:00 p.m at the church. Interment will be at Hammonds Cemetery immediately following.
