Edwin W. “Daddy Buck” Davis

Edwin Weston Davis age 92 a lifelong resident of Bradley County, Tennessee, passed away Thursday, August 20, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Polk County, TN and went to grammar school in Benton, TN., at King School. His family moved to Cleveland where he graduated for College Hill High School. Upon graduation in enlisted in the United States Army where he served his country in the Korean War and received many high accommodations for his bravery and valor. He worked over twenty years at TVA and Bowater and retired as a brick mason/contractor serving many in the East Tennessee area. He was a proud deacon at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where he faithfully attended bible study and was known for his deep bass voice singing “just a closer walk with thee” in the male chorus. He was a standout outfielder, playing minor league baseball in the old Negro League.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Wes Davis and Ella Westfield Davis, one brother Wadie Davis, and two sister Roberta Martin, and Sallie Meredith, grandson O’Neal Ware Jr., and son Robert Taylor.

He leaves to cherish many memories, his wife of sixty-six years, Evelyn Spriggs Davis, daughters, and sons, Maria(Jed) Whaley, Angela(O’Neal) Ware, Joyce Davis, Richard Todd(Shirley) Davis, Edwina(Gerald) Jordan, Edwin ‘Buck’ (Janet) Davis, all of Cleveland, Tn., Sherry (James) Hooker of Chicago, IL,  Sandra Faye McClendon of Chattanooga, TN., Darla Ware and Mark(Jennifer) Taylor ,53 grandchildren, 70 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-greatgrandchildren. Two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Graham and Mary Carter, and three brothers-in-law David Ashmore, Henry Ashmore, and Ricky Ashmore . Many nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends, special cousins, Isabella Westfield, Peggy Goodine, and Carlotta Ware, and many young people that he encouraged through sports to better themselves.

Homegoing services will be held Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Cleveland, TN., with pastor Rev. Edward S. Robinson Sr. delivering the eulogy. The body will lie-instate on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in the chapel of M.D. Dotson & Sons Funeral Home- Cleveland, TN.  Interment will be on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chattanooga, National Cemetery.
