Cory Lashawn Mcgaughey

Cory LaShawn McGaughey ‘Man’, age 41 formerly of Sweetwater, TN died Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Cory was a graduate of Sweetwater High School and for the last five years worked as a master carpenter. He was  a member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church in Sweetwater where he grew up, and served on the usher board and would play the drums accompanying his grandmother Otha  McGaughey.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents Robert and Otha McGaughey Jr., Barbara Josephine Rogers and Smith Rogers, aunt Monica Johnson, and uncle Gino White.

Survivors include his mother and step-father Shelia and Cornell Glover of Sweetwater, TN. His father James Leonard White of Nashville, TN., two daughters, Jaycee McGaughey(Vanessa Filyaw) of Dandridge, TN., and Lexy Lemons of Athens, TN., finacee’ Trisha Strange of Philadelphia, TN., and step-son Jay Inman. Three sisters, Tonya Thomas ( Michael) of Oak Ridge, TN., Tameka White of Chattanooga, TN., and Tanisha White Morgan of Nashville, TN.  Three nephews, and four nieces. Special aunt Yvonne ‘BonBon’ Jones of Sweetwater, TN., special uncle, Van Upton( Sherry) of Houston, Texas, uncles ,Robert McGaughey III

(Terry) of Douglasville, Ga., and Jason McGaughey of Athens, TN., aunts, Connie Dunn(Phillip) of Knoxville, TN., Vickie Bragg(Walter) of Morristown, TN., and Marcia White of Cleveland, TN., great aunts, Gayle Upton of Sweetwater, TN., great aunts and great uncles ,Helen Ruth Robinson, and Billy Robinson of Chattanooga, TN and Willie and Beatrice Cheeseboro of Suitland, MD.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of M.D. Dotson and Sons Funeral Home- Athens, TN., with Rev. Ivey Smith officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. In compliance with COVID the family request also that mask be worn and social distancing be observed. Interment will follow the service at West End Cemetery in Sweetwater, TN.

M.D. Dotson & Sons Funeral Home will continue to be in compliance with  COVID-19, mask are required at all times, and we will monitor for social distancing .
