Charles Henry Jackson Sr. age 77 peacefully transitioned this life on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at his home in Etowah, TN. Formerly of Chattanooga, TN, Charles was the son of the late Henry Armour and Mattie Mae Jackson. He was a graduate of Howard High School in Chattanooga, TN, where he enjoyed playing on the Hustling Tigers football team.
Charles was a loving husband, father and papaw. He was very intelligent and assured in the decisions that he made for his family. He loved history and serious discussions in politics, but most importantly he loved reading his bible.
He was a member for over twenty years of Miracle Deliverance Tabernacle Church in Riceville, TN, where he served as a deacon. Charles loved the church. He was known for his stirring testimonies.
He was a self-taught barber, and gathered much happiness from watching his grandchildren, playing in their various sporting activities, he also enjoyed the quiet of being outside and taking it all in. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp, serving his country in the Vietnam War.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry Armour and Mattie Mae Jackson, his wife of 56 years, Betty Ann Jackson, his son, Charles Jackson Jr., brother, Willie B. Jackson, sister, Mary Collins, son-in-law Tommy Moss, father and mother-in-law, William and Betty Smith, sisters-in-law, Jessica Smith and Lorriane Ware and brother-in-law Bobby Ware.
He leaves to cherish the many memories of love and family to his brother Anthony(Doris) Waite of Chattanooga, Annette Armour of Iowa. Six children, Reginal (Dianne) McCann of Alabaster, Ala, Elecha Jackson of Atlanta, Ga., Lisa(Keith) Jackson, Sonya(Anthony) Moss, Pamela (Austin) Tate all of Etowah, TN, and Michael (Rhonda) Jackson of Ooltewah, TN. 13 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. Brother-in-law, William (Audrea) Smith of Chattanooga, TN.
Special friends, Betty Jarrett of Etowah, TN., Larrry Stovall, Kenneth Jackson aka ‘Fuzz’, and Gene Arnwine, aka ‘ Easy’.
Home Going services will be held Thursday, May 25, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Miracle Deliverance Tabernacle Church in Riceville, TN 245 County Rd 677 with Pastor, Rev. Anthony Wynn officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m., with funeral services following at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow the service at Greenhill Cemetery with military honor guards.
