Carl V. Thompson age 72 passed Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at his home in Sweetwater, TN. He was a member of Riverview Missionary Baptist Church in Lenoir City, where he participated in the choir and the Loudon District Choir. He was a graduate of Lenoir City High School and was a retired truck driver. Carl loved technology, movies, and watching sports. As a young man, Carl enjoyed playing basketball and cycling. Carl was the first Black deputy on the Blount County Police Force.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Rufus D. and Rubye Scales Thompson, along with his brother Rufus Preston Thompson, nephew Derondo Logan, and brother-in-law Lonnie Jones Jr.

He is survived by a loving family of two sisters, Molly (Jimmy) Cannady of Sweetwater, TN and Judy Thompson Jones of Knoxville, TN, nieces, Carmen Hall, Rachel, and Felicia Cannady, and nephews, Christopher (Ranie) Jones of Gallatin, TN, Rev. Nicholas (Ciarra) Jones of Lenior City, and James, Dominic and Christopher Cannady all of Sweetwater, TN. Great-nephews, Weston Jones, and Ivan Hall McZee, and great nieces, Destiny Oggs, Angel Hooker, and Maranda Cantrell (Arthur).

Funeral services will be Friday, February 7, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of M.D. Dotson and Sons Funeral Home – Athens, TN with Rev. Nicholas Jones officiating and delivering the eulogy. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow the service at Hackney Chapel Cemetery (Unitia) Lenior City, TN
