Ballerie Jo King was born May 24, 1958 to Sherman and Evelyn King in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and departed on March 31, 2024.  Ballerie graduated from Central High School in 1975. Upon graduation, she attended Tennessee State University. She was employed for many years in Hamilton County School District where she worked as a teacher assistant and substitute teacher.

Ballerie was an educator who loved her students.  As a staff member at Hillcrest Elementary and Booker T. Washington Alternative Schools, she went the extra mile by tutoring students to help them reach their reading grade level and beyond. She was a member of Jack and Jill of America, where she was dedicated to nurturing our future leaders. Ballerie loved to cook and enjoyed spending time with her friends.

She was proceeded in death by her parents Sherman L. King, and Eveyln Anderson King and her sister, Daphine King Zacharie.

She leaves a host of family and friends to cherish her memory: brothers Sherman W. (Carolyn) and Donel (Jacqui) King; nephews and nieces, Sherman W. King, Jr. (Marie), Donel King II, Floyd Zacharie, James (Shay) Gillespie, Joy (Ryan) Johnson, Claude (Megan) King, Corey (Keyata) Talley, David Thomas (Shakira Williams-Thomas). Great nephews and nieces: Laila King, Kyre King, Grant Gillespie, Dylan Gillespie, Carsyn King, Jaxsyn Johnson, Jett Johnson, Katheryn ‘Katie’ Zacharie, Jalen Zacharie, Taryn King, Corey Talley, Jr., Namarian Talley, Caden Talley, Marshia Talley, Cormorey Talley, Cormiyah Talley, David Thomas, Noah Thomas, Zora Thomas. Great-great niece Kailani Talley. Two aunts, Mattie Jean Roberts and Hazel Ramsey both of Cleveland, Tennessee. Godson Robert Carter; Goddaughter Nailah Carter; God grandbaby, Maverick Carter. Loyal and devoted friends, caretakers: Michael and Theresa Hines. Devoted cousins and friends: Rae Thomas, Caprice Cox, Dalpha Pender, Tina Carter, Jacquelyn Atkerson, Deborah Massengill, Priscilla Jones, Wallace Fortson, Masheryl Stegall, and Joelle Winston.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 12:00 noon at Greater Tucker Baptist Church in Chattanooga, TN with pastor Rev. Gary Hathaway delivering the eulogy and Rev.William Daniel officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at the church on Saturday. Interment will follow the service at Highland Cemetery in Chattanooga, TN.
