Anna Elizabeth Shields

Anna Elizabeth Shields , 84, of Niota, TN went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at local Athens TN hospital.
She was a devoted member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Niota, TN, where she served on the Usher Board, The Mission Society, and sung in the choir which she thoroughly enjoyed!  She was also part of the kitchen staff.  She loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, loved her siblings, church family, and simply just loved people.  She loved attending her church, being on the move and going out to eat.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Timothy and Clemmie McCowan; her husband James Shields; and nine siblings Edna Mae Simpson, Clara Simpson, Judy and (Bobby)Wells, Frances Latham, J. L. and (Juanita) McCowan, Hubert McCowan, Eula Smith, William Houston McCowan, and Timothy Clemmie McCowan.
Survivors include 3 children.  JoAnn and (Ronny) Latham of Sweetwater, TN, Rosa and (William) Cox II of Cleveland, TN, and James and (Gwen) Shields of Niota, TN.  Siblings and spouses; Pauline and Jackie Mayotte, and Earnest Dean and Melvin Oggs of Sweetwater,TN, and Chester McCowan of Niota,TN, Helen Rucker, Chester Smith, Robert and Mattie McCowan,  Billy Simpson and Jimmy Simpson  all of Athens, TN, and Richard Latham of Sweetwater,TN; 7 grandchildren;  Kelly Arnwine, Ron Latham, Benji and (Shemika )Cox , Shane Cox and Kristy,  Terrell and (Erica) Cox, Jaquise Cox and Tiffany Wells, and  Eric Oggs.  13 great-grandchildren; Martrell Harris and Charity Arnwine, Sariyah and Kaija Cox, Lori And Quinton Oggs, Brittany Cox, Judah and  Elizabeth Cox, Anaiah, Jeray, Joshua and Caleb Cox.  A host of nieces and nephews and many relatives and friends. Special people include Pastor Ovit Pursley and Pastor Hickman. Special friends, Freddie Upton and Martha Jane Upton

Homegoing Services will be at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, February 19th at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Niota, TN, with Pastor Terrell Mims officiating.    Burial will follow at Moore Cemetery in Niota, TN. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church from 1:00 pm until 2:00  pm.
