Alphonso (a.k.a Foozie) Tillery
age 87 a resident of Cleveland, TN passed Monday, June 1, 2020 in a hospice facility in Chattanooga, Tn.
He was the son of the late Roy and Willie Moore Tillery. He attended College Hill High School and Price Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church. He joined the military at an early age. He drove an artillery truck in the Korean War. As a corporal in the Marines he was awarded several medals, the United Nation Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the Korean Presidential Unit Citation. After returning home from the service he worked at Magic Chef, Maytag, and Whirlpool where he retired.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Frank Tillery, sister Hattie M. Bryant, and brother-in-law Frank Bryant, and sister-in-law Mary Tillery.
He leaves to cherish his memories, two brothers, Andrew Tillery of Chicago, Ill, and Roy (Faye)Tillery of Lexington, Ky., many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Special caregivers, cousin Caroline Scott, and niece Frankie Bryant both of Cleveland, TN., and grandson Craig Thompson of Chattanooga, TN.
The remains will lie in state on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of M.D. Dotson & Sons Funeral Home- Cleveland, TN., in accordance with COVID-I9 attendance, with memorial services to immediately follow at 11:30 a.m. officiated by Rev. Teresa Oglesby. Interment will be Monday, June 15, 2020 at 10:30 at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
