Alfred T. Henry

Alfred Thomas “Tommy” Henry , age 70, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 17, 2017, surrounded by his family.

Born September 27, 1946, in Athens, TN, he spent some of his life in Detroit, MI, before moving back to Athens. He attended Brown Barber College in Atlanta, GA, where he earned his license to cut hair and was the neighborhood barber to his family and friends for over 50 years. He loved fishing, motorcycles, western movies, playing Bid Whist and dominoes, the Detroit Lions, and spending time with his family and loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his parents Melvin Thomas Henry and Mary Kay King Henry.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory his wife of 25 years Rose Lee Arnold Henry, three sons and two daughters-in-law, Tony (Cyndi) Henry, Kadia (Terrie) Henry, and Devonte’ Henry all of Athens; six daughters and four sons-in-law, Ayanna Roberts, Sciarra Henry (Rusty Dyer), Letima Henry, Tomikia (Jamall) Scudder, Martina Henry (Dewayne Graves), and Laucretia (Marcus) Looney all of Athens; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Lonnye (Marvis) Henry of Atlanta, GA, and Walter (Sue) Goode of Charleston, TN; one aunt, Zelma Moss of Columbus, OH; one special cousin, Ronnie Rucker; eleven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; three special friends, Jimmy Simpson, Billy Simpson, and Sammy Neil; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 23, at Greater Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. William Ryan delivering the eulogy and Rev. C. Eady officiating.   The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Interment will be at Hammonds Cemetery immediately following. Visitation by friends will begin on Friday after 3:00 p.m.
