Carla Michele "King" McDermott age 53, a native of Athens, born on January 28, 1964, passed away on April 1, 2017 at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, Tn. She attended McMinn County High School class of 1982, and completed her Associates Degree in Business Management from Cleveland State Community College. From an early age, her love of books and reading lead her to employment with E. G. Fisher Library for over ten years. Her last employer was Community Health Systems, Shared Services Center in Franklin TN as a Customer Service Rep. She worked there since September 2014 and was well liked by her co-workers and patients alike; patients would ask for her specifically when they called in.
She is the daughter of Mary Gwendolyn (Bill) Bennett. Preceded in death by her Great Grandparents; Mary Ruth (Glen Hale) Johnson Sr, Grandmother; Willie Frances Bailey, Father; Norman Jones, Brother; Daryl Jones, and Sister; Yvonne Scott.

She leaves to celebrate her homegoing daughter Jessica McDermott of Loxley, AL and son Marqus McDermott of Spring Hill, TN, Brothers; Todd Bennett, Rodney Bennett of Phoenix, AZ, Sisters; Regina Quick of Cutlerville, MI, and Kecia Bennett of Grand Rapids, MI. Great Aunt; Ruth Malone of Athens, TN, Aunts; Imogene King, Charlesetta (Kenneth) McDermott of Athens, TN, Uncles; George T. Bailey, John (Helen) Bailey, Clifford Bailey, and Richard King of Athens, TN, Terry (Fay) Long of Harvest, AL and William Bailey of Clarksville, TN and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. Special Friends; Mrs. Janice Cheairs, Mrs. Sharon Taylour, Mrs. Toshia (Clint) Gregory, Summit High School "Band Moms", Community Health Systems, SSC family and the Connection Hill P.B Church family.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Freeman Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Athens, TN, with pastor Rev. Edmund Cox officiating and Rev. Corey Howse delivering the eulogy. The body will lie in-state on Saturday from 10:30a.m. until 12:30 p.m. for visitation by friends and love ones. M.D. Dotson & Sons Funeral Home will conclude services of loving memory with interment at Hammonds Cemetery in Athens, TN.
