Thomas Winton

Thomas Lee Winton age 80 of Athens, Tn. died Saturday, February 11, 2017 in a local hospital. He was a retired employee of Athens Stove Works after 32 years of service. He attended Lane Chapel Church in Niota, Tn.
‘Papaw’, known by his grandchildren, never met a stranger, and enjoyed sharing conversation with all.
Thomas was the son of the John and Lassie Winton, and is preceded in death by three brothers, Hillary Winton, John Ben Winton, and Edward Eugene Winton, and five sisters, Janie Johnson, Helen Robinson, Mandy Winton, Louise Clark, and Betty Jean Arnwine, and his wife Eve Moore Winton.

Survivors include one daughter, Sonya (George) Boyd of Athens, Tn. One step-daughter, Stephanie Lynn Oggs of Athens, Tn. Four grandchildren, Tohana(Sha) Boyd of Athens, TN., Caylon Boyd, Cornelius Boyd, both of Athens, TN., and Denzell Boyd of Johnson City, TN. Two great-grandchildren, Zyriah Boyd and Nakia Sales both of Athens, TN. Two step-grandchildren, Walter Roger(Bootsie)
Ballenger II of Columbia, TN., and Ken’T’ray Sanchez Carter(Tray) of Athens,TN. Three step-greatgrandchildren, Kedron Ballenger, Shaneyce Ballenger, and Noah Ballenger all of Columbia, TN. One sister-in-law, Mary Winton of Athens, TN.
A devoted niece, Kelley(Morrow) Mack of Athens, TN. Special nieces, Melinda Kimpson, Judy Winton, and Mattie Craig. The Ramsey children whom he help to raise and treated like they were his very own, Ann ‘Sister’ Ramsey, Rena(Morris) Martin, Charlotte Ramsey Roach, and John(Lisa) Ramsey, a special friend Ron White, and a host of other relatives and dear friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of M.D. Dotson & Sons Funeral Home – Athens, with Rev. Larry Saunders officiating and Rev. Caylon Boyd delivering the eulogy. The family will receive friends one hour before service from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00, with internment at Moore Cemetery in Niota, TN.
