Ernie Simpson passed away at his home in Etowah, TN on December 27, 2016 at the age of 72 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marie Harris and Thomas Simpson, his grandmother, Margaret Harris, his brother Thomas Simpson Jr., and his sister Carolyn J. Edington.
He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War before retiring from Arrow Lock where he worked for over 15 years as a tool and die maker. He was truly a one of a kind man, father, brother, and friend to many. Most importantly, he was a fighter. He loved cooking his southern cuisines, eating Shoney's, working on his cars, listening to the golden oldies, spending time with his youngest granddaughter, Ayanna, and his best friend, Tank.
His loving memories will be cherished by his wife Mary Simpson, his daughters, Carolyn Jones, Latonya Johnson, Necola Bryant, Rhonda McCleary and her husband Roderick McClearly, Alexandria Scott, Amanda Simpson and Monique Simpson, his son Michael Anthony and his wife Rachel Anthony, his 10 grandchildren, his 8 great grandchildren, his brothers, Arnold Simpson and Donald Simpson, his sister, Dorothy Lemon, and a host of nieces and nephews and his beloved dog Tank.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of M.D. Dotson & Sons Funeral Home- Athens, TN., with Rev. James Parris delivering the eulogy. The family will receive friends one hour before the service from12:00-1:00p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at New Zion Cemetery in Etowah, TN.
