Edith Mae Deed age 94 of Etowah died Saturday, August 20, 2016 in a local hospital. She was a member of Harwell Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Etowah, Tn., and attended Star Bethel Baptist Church in Etowah, singing in the church choir, a participant in the A.M.E. Zion Missionary Society.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Mattie Lee and Port Parris, one sister, Mrs. Geneva Jackson, five brothers, Jake Parris, Will Parris, Alfred Parris, and T.G. Parris. One son, John Charles Harper, and one daughter, Sharon Kay Scudder.
Survivors include six daughters, Mattie White of Etowah, Tn., Jessie Carolyn Mackey of Nashville, Linda Benton (William Thompson) of Etowah, Wanda (Charles)Robinson of Etowah, Tn., Kennetha (Richard) Smith of Etowah, and Karen Nichols(Ivan Dragg).
A special granddaughter, Katrina Harper of Etowah, a special grandson, Glen ‘Tony’ Harper of Athens,many other grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, great-greatgrandchildren , and special friend Cletus Benton. Three special nieces, Christine Lowary, Eloise Moore, and Anna Mooney.
Home going services will be held Sunday, August 28, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at Star Bethel Baptist Church with pastor Rev. James Parris officiating, The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church from 2:00 p.m., until 3:00 p.m. Interment will be held Monday at 12:30 p.m.at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
