Kerry "Shorty" Smith

Kerry Dovon Smith age 60, affectionately known as ‘Shorty’ of Cleveland, TN., departed this life August 12, 2016.
He was the son the late Wanda Parker, and after her death he was raised by his grandparents, John and Violet Smith. He was of the Methodist faith. He graduated from Cleveland High School and entered the U.S. Army where he served for 4 years, and in the Army Reserves for 18 years. He was a Gulf War Veteran.
He was employed with TDOT for 23 years. He loved all sports, and he coached girls’ softball for a number of years. He loved camping.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 25 years, Lisa Tate Smith of Cleveland, Tn., daughter Karessa and his namesake Kerry D. Smith II both of Cleveland, TN. Two brothers, Carlton Smith of Nashville, Tn., and Rickey (Diane) Smith of Atlanta, Ga. Aunt Earline Tucker of Mansfield, Ohio. Sisters-in-law, Aileen(Patrick) Sheppard, Martha Craigmiles. Vanessa(Reggie) Howell, Shannon(Carlos) Jones all of Cleveland, Tn. Brothers-in-law, Austin (Pamela) Tate of Etowah,TN., Calvin(Jan) Crawford of Cleveland, Tn., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, his best friend Patrick Sheppard and devoted cousins, Allen Goldston, and Kay McClure and many dear friends.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 18, 2016 at 12:00 noon at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with pastor Rev. Edward S. Robinson officiating and
Rev. Marvin Howard pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church will deliver the eulogy. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Visitation by friends will begin after 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at M.D. Dotson & Sons Funeral Home- Cleveland, Tn. Interment will follow at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.
