Eugene Wood

Eugene Austin Wood age 76 of Cleveland died Friday, July 21, 2016 in a Chattanooga hospital. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Cleveland, Tn. He was a well-known nation-wide entertainer, performing with many musical groups, the Fi-Dels, managed by Zola Taylor of the Platters. He was personal friends with David Ruffins of the Temptations, and also appear with artist such as Sammie Davis Jr. and with the Fi- Dels, and many other famous groups. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He is preceded in death by his mother, Sara Helen Porter Wood Littlejohn.

Survivors include five sons, Shawn Wood, Dino Wood, Keith Wood, Kenneth Woo all of California, and Javaris Moore of Athens, Tn. Two daughters, Ieka Wood of Calif., and Winsley McCroskey of Etowah, Tn. Sixteen grandchildren, and devoted friend Brad LaChapell of Wisconsin. Many other family and many friends in Athens, and Cleveland area.

Funeral services will be held Friday July 29, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. in the chapel of M.D. Dotson & Sons Funeral Home & Cremation Service- Athens, Tn., with Rev. Kenneth Scaife officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
