Rev. Elihue Looney age 98 of Athens, TN went home to be with the Lord Sunday May 15, 2016 in a local Athens hospital. He was retired from Bowater Southern and a veteran of the United States Army. He was well known throughout McMinn County and the surrounding area as a minister of the gospel, where he also pastored many local churches.
He was a member of Boaz Lodge #318, and Chaplain of the Ruritan Club.
He was the son of the late Letha and Joe Looney, and is preceded in death by his son James Elihue Looney and sister Annie Mae Swafford Adamson, brothers, John Looney, C.H. Looney, several other brothers and sisters.

Survivors include a very devoted wife, Patsy Ann McDermott Looney of 46 years of Athens, Tn. One daughter, Gloria Andrews of Knoxville, Tn., Four sons, Robert E. ( Shirley) Looney of Foley, Ala., Ben D. ( Geraldine) Looney of Windson, Ontario, Troy (Tabatha) McDermott and Jason Looney all of Athens, Tn. Very devoted nieces, Clara Ramsey, and a great niece Charlotte Roach of Murfreesboro, TN. A devoted sister-in-law, Lola Arnold of Athens, Tn. Special friends, Chester Smith, Lewis Curtis, Rev. Lonnie McIntyre, Rosa Armstrong, and Rev. Angela Billingsley. Devoted granddaughter Angela Stewart, along with a host of loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-greatgrandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Athens, Tn. with presiding Elder Rev. J.R. Bridgeman officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Hammonds Cemetery.
