Kenneth Lee “Papaw”, “Pappy” McCowan transition to heaven on October 29, 2015. He was a longtime resident of Athens, Tennessee where he retired from Athens Stove Works of Athens, Tennessee. He was a faithful member of Greater Mount Pleasant Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was born April 7, 1933 in Niota, Tennessee. He was proceeded in death by his parents Issac Harlen and Cordelia M. McCowan, and his son, Thomas Lee McCowan, and two great-grandchildren, Joshua Thomas and Anthony Lee McCowan.

He leaves his wife of 58 years of marriage, Edna Sue Moss McCowan, and his son Bruce (Esther)McCowan of Athens, Tennessee. His brothers, Louis (Evelyn) McCowan, James (Pamela) McCowan, two sisters, Zella Smith and Loretta Ferguson, sister in law Reubenia (Kenneth) Inman, and Freda Moss. His grandchildren, Joshua McCowan, Keyona (Dannis) Ferguson, Dexter McCowan, Elijah (Laycie) McCowan, and Ayana McCowan. And nine great grandchildren who are, Joshua Tanner, Aaliah, Christian, Aniyah, Anthony (Andy), Demarian, Marayah, Kaydence, and Izayah, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services will be held, Sunday, November 1, 2015, at Greater Mount Pleasant Baptist Church with the family receiving friends beginning at two o’clock and a memorial service to follow at three o’clock pm, with M.D. Dotson’s and Sons officiating. Rev. Ryans will be officiating the services and Dr. Kenneth Scaife will deliver the eulogy.
