George Upton

George Edward Upton was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday October 21, 2015. He was a member and Deacon of First Missionary Baptist Church in Troy, AL, where he taught Sunday school and bible school ministries. He attended North Point School and graduated from Sweetwater High School class of 1970. He attended and graduated from the University of Tennessee Knoxville and he received his MBA from Kutztown University, Kutztown, PA. He worked for many years with Air Products in Allentown, PA., and later became a successful entrepreneur in many areas of business serving the Troy, AL community and surrounding areas.

He was preceded to glory by his father Lex, Jr., his mother Mildred, and his sister Cynthia, and brother Rev. James Houston Upton. He will be greatly missed by his wife of twenty-two years, Gladys Felton Upton of Troy, AL; his son Christopher Upton of Houston, TX. He is also survived by his siblings Ronald (Almeda)Upton, Margaret Ann (Julian) Blackshear, Lester (Valerie) Upton, Dennis (LaTonya) Upton, and Audra (Michael) Cox, and sister-in-law Maryanne Upton of Sweetwater, TN. Six sisters-in-law, and four brothers-in-law, and father-in-law, James W. Felton of Troy, AL. Special aunts and uncles, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be Monday, October 26, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Church of Christ, 1018 Morris Street Sweetwater, TN. where the pastor is Rev. Archie Smartt and Rev. George Gilchrist Jr. will officiate the service. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. on Monday at the church. Interment will follow at North Point Cemetery, Sweetwater, TN. A memorial service will also be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. at First Missionary Baptist Church in Troy, AL.
