Elizabeth Irene Cox

Elizabeth Irene Cox age 82 went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 5, 2015 at a local Athens health care facility. She was a member of Athens Church of the Nazarene, where she serve as a Sunday school teacher for the senior adult class. Her life was an example of a personal transformation to Christ which she was extremely proud of. She worked for many years as the local taxi driver for so many years in Athens, and was employed with Athens Cleaners and Etowah Cleaners for twenty years, and worked for Textron as an assembly worker for seventeen years. She loved being around and socializing with people, her daily trips to Walmart, spending time with her sisters and brothers and she loved sewing. She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Elizabeth Brown Cox, two sisters, Virginia Pryor, and Emma Dickerson, and brother Robert Cox.

Memories of her love will be cherished by her family which include two devoted daughters, Patricia Cox of San Antonio, Texas and Crystal Cox of Athens, Tn. Three grandchildren, Seaman Arielle Starr Cox of Norfolk, Va., Aaron Cox and Demitrius Cox both of Athens, Tn. Two brothers, Cotterell Brown of Sun City, Ariz., and Dan Cox Etowah, Tn., and two sisters, Helen Collier of Englewood, Tn and Rachel Robinson of Athens, Tn. One aunt, Oggie Mae McDermott of Athens, Tn. Many nieces, nephews, a host of cousins, and many dear friends.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 8, 2015 at 12:00 noon in the chapel of M.D. Dotson & Sons Funeral Home, Athens, Tn., with Rev. Leuty McDermott officiating. Interment will follow at McMinn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour before the service from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 at the funeral home.
