John Robert McDermott age 90 passed Sunday morning July 19, 2015 at his residence in Etowah, Tn. He had a great loved for fishing, hunting, and gardening, and he especially loved to listen to his police scanner. He never met a stranger.
He was a veteran of World War II serving his country in the United States Navy.
He is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Lucy Moss McDermott, his wife of 65 years Alice Mae Brown McDermott and son Dewayne McDermott.
Survivors include three sons, Leroy(Hazel) McDermott of Chattanooga, Tn., John Robert ‘Bud’ McDermott Jr. of Etowah, Tn., and Stevie(Jasmine) McDermott of Athens, Tn., and three daughters, Poncella (Glenn) Roberts, Josephine (Frankie) Williams, and Lucia(Rick) Walker all of Etowah, Tn. Thirteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Special cousin, Laura Jean Orange of Columbus, Ohio. Devoted friends, Michael Cole, and Bojack Armstrong, many other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends Tuesday July 21, 2015 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at M.D. Dotson & Sons Funeral Home- Athens, Tn. Interment services will be officiated by Rev. Allen Crider on Wednesday at 1:30p.m. at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.
