James H. ‘Sonny’ Bowerman age 68 of Decatur, Tn. passed Thursday July 9, 2015 in a local hospital. He attended Burkett’s Chapel United Methodist Church at an early age. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the United States Army, and receiving many medals, one of his medals was for being a M16 sharp shooter. He was a retired as a construction equipment operator, and truck driver. He was an avid fisherman.

He is proceeded in death by his parents Ulycess and Louise Jewel Bowerman.
Survivors include his wife Forestine Bowerman of Cleveland, Tn., two sisters, Jewel (Claude) Goldston of Decatur, Tn., and Janet (Willis) Goldston of Decatur, Tn. One brother, Rev. Leroy(Alinda) Bowerman of Decatur, Tn., a special cousin Patricia Flowers of Kansas City, Mo., many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at 12:00 noon in the chapel of M.D. Dotson & Sons Funeral Home- Athens, Tn. with Rev. Rodney Dunn officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Interment will follow at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honor guard. Visitation by friends will begin after 1:00 p.m. on Monday July 13, 2015 at M.D. Dotson & Sons Funeral Home – Athens, Tn.
