Alice D. Butler age 78, the daughter of the late Charles A. and Willie M. McDermott was born on July 5, 1936 in Etowah, Tn. and departed this earthly life on Friday, February 13, 2015 at Aiken Regional Medical Center, Aiken South Carolina after a lengthy illness. Allice attended Dunbar High School in Chicago, IL and graduated from Austin East High in Knoxville, Tn in 1954. Alice received her LPN credentials in 1962 from Vocation Trade School in Athens, Tn. Starting in 1986, Alice received her nursing re-certifications at Aiken Tech. In 1962, Alice joined and was baptized at Antioch Baptist Church in Chicago, IL. Upon returning to Etowah, Alice was affiliated with Star Bethel Baptist Church. Alice relocated to Aiken in August of 1981 and was affiliated with Rockhill Baptist Church, Almond Branch Baptist Church and Bible Way; she joined and was baptized at Second Baptist Church, Aiken, South Carolina in 2000.
Alice was a member and past secretary of Dozier Chapter#4 of Eastern Star and Associate Matron and secretary of Ashley Grove Court #440 and past treasurer of the Aiken District. Alice loved fishing, crabbing, cooking and gardening, and was a very capable seamstress. Alice also did a little home remodeling.
Alice was preceded in death by her children, Sherry L. Dyer and Claude E. Dyer. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Earl L., Donald E., Charles E. and Jerry McDermott; and sisters, Robbie L. McDermott, Mary S. Chandler and Nora J. Turk, grandsons, William L. Dyer, and Joseph Dyer, husbands, William Dyer and Willie Coleman and stepson Timothy M. Jackson.
Alice leaves to cherish her memory, her husband Edward L. Butler, one son, Reginald L. Dyer, one sister, Nancy L. Upton, Aiken, SC, one brother Lee Roy McDermott, Knoxville, Tn, one uncle, Paul P. McDermott, Detroit, MI, one aunt Frances Pierce, Athens, Tn., five sisters-in-law, Clara Scott, Oakwood, SC., Billie J. McDermott, Cleveland, Tn., Phyllis McDermott, Knoxville, Tn., Gilda McDermott, Athens, Tn., and Linda McDermott, Etowah, Tn. Two brothers-in-law, General Lee Butler, Salley, SC., and Ollie Butler, Fort Lauderdale, Fl. Six grandsons, Joshua, Joseph, Jason, and Patrick E. Dyer, Aiken, SC., Tracy Dyer, Athens, Tn., and Farron Linder, Madisonville, Tn., five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews, very faithful friends, Bonetta Smith, Athens, Tn., Hettie Dickey, Etowah, Tn., Gussie Mays, Lorine Goins, Harriman, Tn., Bernice Moore, Gene and Paulette Owens, Aiken, SC.
